Device Closure
Device closure is a minimally invasive cardiac procedure performed to close abnormal openings or structural defects in the heart, such as holes in the heart walls, without the need for open-heart surgery. During this procedure, a thin and flexible tube (catheter) is inserted through a vein, usually in the leg and guided to the heart. Here a small closure device is placed across the defect. Over time, the heart tissue grows over it, making the closure permanent.
What does device closure treat?
- ASD (Atrial Septal Defect)- A hole between the upper chambers (atria) of the heart.
- VSD (Ventricular Septal Defect)- A hole between the lower chambers (ventricles) of the heart.
- PDA (Patent Ductus Arteriosus)- A persistent opening between two major blood vessels coming from the heart.
- RSOV (Ruptured Sinus of Valsalva)- A rare but serious heart condition where there is a tear or rupture in the wall of the sinus of Valsalva.
Benefits:
- It helps to avoid open-heart surgery.
- It shortens hospital stay and faster recovery.
- It improves oxygen circulation and heart function.
- It reduces the risk of complications like heart failure or stroke.
